Measurement of subpicosecond electron pulses.
A new bunch-length measuring method has been developed to measure the subpicosecond electron pulses generated at the Stanford SUNSHINE facility. This method utilizes a far-infrared Michelson interferometer to measure coherent transition radiation emitted at wavelengths longer than or equal to the bunch length via optical autocorrelation. To analyze the measurement, a simple and systematic way h...
متن کاملPhonon mode coupling and Fano-type antiresonance in polyethylene
Polyethylene (PE) is a nonpolar partially crystalline polymer. The crystalline regions have lateral dimension of several hundred Angstroms and are embeded in an amorphous polymer matrix. Crystalline polyethylene belongs to the orthorhombic crystal system with point group D21~. In the far infrared spectral region PE shows a strong absorption line at 73 cm -1 and a very weak band at 109 cm -1, wh...
متن کاملLaser-induced damage in dielectrics with nanosecond to subpicosecond pulses.
Our extensive measurements of damage thresholds for fused silica and several fluorides (LiF, CaF, MgF and BaF) at 1053 and 526 nm for pulse durations, 2, ranging from 275 fs to 1 ns are reported elsewhere at this meeting. A theoretical model based on electron production via multiphoton ionization, Joule heating, and collisional (avalanche) ionization is in good agreement with experimental results.
متن کاملBuildup of steady-state subpicosecond and femtosecond pulses in a colliding-pulse mode-locked ring dye laser.
We show for the first time, to our knowledge, that the buildup time to steady-state femtosecond pulses in a typical colliding-pulse mode-locked dye laser (lambda = 620 nm) with compensating prisms is 15 microsec after the pulses have been completely modulated. For a similar laser without the compensating prisms, the buildup time is 40 microsec and exhibits interesting oscillatory behavior in th...
متن کاملGeneration of subpicosecond electrical pulses by optical rectification.
We describe the generation of subpicosecond electrical pulses by optical rectification of ultrashort optical pulses. The electrical pulses are generated by the second-order nonlinear response of a LiTaO(3) crystal bonded to a coplanar transmission line. A bipolar temporal waveform with a width of 875 fs was measured after a propagation distance of 175mum . This pulse width was limited by the re...
